On Thursday, 3rd November 2016, we went to the theatre in Pardubice to see the English performance of Oliver Twist. This story was written by a famous English author- Charles Dickens. It is about a boy who is unfortunate since the day he was born. His mother dies after his birth and he has to go to a workhouse where children are forced to work only for food and accommodation. He luckily escapes and is trying to get to London. On his way he meets Artful Dodger. Dodger is one of the children who steal for Fagin and in his den he meets Bill Sikes, Nancy and Charlie Bates. Afterwards Oliver becomes one of them. The young thieves are caught during the pocket-picking, Oliver is blamed, but Mr. Brownlow defends him and takes him home. Soon, he knows Oliver is his actual grandson. However, Fagin wants the boy back, so the gang kidnap Oliver. But Nancy wants a better life for Oliver and she wants to take him back to his grandfather. When Bill finds it out, he kills her because he thinks she betrayed them. He is then shot by a policeman. After that Fagin is executed for steeling, kidnapping and organising crimes. Oliver is back with his real grandfather, Mr Brownlow. The drama group tried to show the story in a different way. It starts from the end because the whole story was told by Fagin when he was right before his execution. There also was a lot of singing and as usually, the interaction with the audience. Over all, it was a very good performance and we are looking forward to our next visit of the theatre.
