European School Luxembourg

Naše návštěva v Evropské škole

European School of Luxembourg

European School of Luxembourg II was established in 2013 to educate children of parents who work within the European Union institutions. As a part of our trip, we had a unique opportunity to visit an otherwise inaccessible educational institution located outside the city centre near a small town called Bertrange in the west of Luxembourg (45 minutes by public bus). We could only get around the secondary level of the school. However, the buildings also hosted a kindergarden and primary school. There they teach more than 2,000 students from 27 countries and in 3 possible types of education - English, German and French, which start at the age of 11-12 and finishes at the age of 18 when students pass their leaving exams.

Our visit was managed by the Czech teacher Mrs Dana Zajicková, a teacher of the Czech language and literature, who has been teaching at the school for seven years. She asked her colleagues to welcome the members of our group in their lessons according to students interests.

We enjoyed the company of Jarmila, who became our student´s guide.  After undergoing a tour around the campus which is perfectly well equipped with both labs, gyms and also two swimming pools, each of us joined the class of our choice. We participated in the tuition of Biochemistry (Igor Stefanic), Advanced Literature (James Leader), English (Andrew Morrow), Civics, History (Jane Tabone, Mans Hedberg), Mathematics (Athanasios Nestoras, Konstantinos Arampatris). It was with much pleasure that we could cooperate with local students and teachers.

Having finished the teaching sessions, we were kindly invited to the teacher´s canteen where a delicious selection of food was prepared for us.

The tour concluded with a brief meeting with around 10 of the Czech students, with whom we had the opportunity to further get to know the educational system in Luxembourg and also European schools and also to sing few campfire songs.

The school visit was a memorable experience that enabled us to connect with other Czech students and students from other countries of Europe in Luxembourg. Natural mixture of nationalities in one classroom was really amazing and extraordinary experience for us.
