Ve čtvrtek 11. prosince se na gymnáziu uskutečnila odborná prezentace v anglickém jazyce určená studentům sexty a septimy. Přednášejícím byl pan Kevan D. Evans, uznávaný odborník v oblasti materiálového inženýrství a metalurgie s bohatými mezinárodními zkušenostmi.

V úvodu přednášky pan Evans představil svou profesní dráhu. Vystudoval metalurgii na University of Strathclyde ve Skotsku a již ve věku 36 let se stal prezidentem organizace Materials Scotland. Během své kariéry působil v oblasti materiálového inženýrství a metalurgie ve Velké Británii, Irsku, Německu, severských zemích, jižní Africe, Číně a na Středním východě. V současné době pracuje pro společnost Freeport-McMoRan se sídlem ve Phoenixu, Arizona (USA). Součástí jeho profesního působení je také společnost Climax, kde pracuje již deset let. Tato společnost se zaměřuje na těžbu měděné rudy a její následné zpracování na molybden.

Hlavním tématem prezentace byly otázky spojené s Brexitem, tedy odchodem Spojeného království z Evropské unie. Pan Evans se věnoval zejména důvodům, které k Brexitu vedly, jeho časovému průběhu a samotnému procesu vystoupení z EU. Studenti měli možnost seznámit se s konkrétními dopady Brexitu na řadu oblastí, mezi něž patří mezinárodní obchod, zaměstnanost, školství, zdravotnictví, cestování, ceny a inflace, hodnota britské měny, finanční trhy, výměnné programy pro mladé lidi, migrace, služby i rodinný život.

Přednáška se uskutečnila v rámci projektu Erasmus+ Jean Monnet, na kterém škola pracuje již třetím rokem. Jedním z klíčových úkolů tohoto projektu je zhodnocení Brexitu a analýza odchodu Spojeného království z Evropské unie. Setkání s odborníkem z praxe přineslo studentům cenný pohled na aktuální evropská témata v širších mezinárodních souvislostech a významně přispělo k naplnění cílů projektu.

On Thursday, 11 December, an expert lecture in English was held at the grammar school for students of the sixth and seventh years. The lecture was delivered by Mr. Kevan D. Evans, a respected specialist in the field of materials engineering and metallurgy with extensive international experience.

At the beginning of the lecture, Mr. Evans introduced his professional background. He studied metallurgy at the University of Strathclyde in Scotland and became President of Materials Scotland at the age of 36. During his career, he has worked in the field of materials engineering and metallurgy in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, the Nordic countries, South Africa, China, and the Middle East. He is currently employed by Freeport-McMoRan, based in Phoenix, Arizona (USA). He has also been working for the company Climax for the past ten years. The company focuses on the mining of copper ore and its subsequent processing into molybdenum.

The main focus of the lecture was on issues related to Brexit, the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union. Mr. Evans explained the reasons behind Brexit, when the process began, and how the withdrawal unfolded. He presented concrete examples of the impact of Brexit on various areas, including trade, employment, education, healthcare, travel, prices and inflation, the value of the British currency, financial markets, youth exchange programmes, migration, services, and family life.

The lecture took place within the framework of the Erasmus+ Jean Monnet project, which the school has been implementing for the third year. One of the key objectives of this project is the evaluation of Brexit and the analysis of the UK’s departure from the European Union. The meeting with an expert from professional practice provided students with valuable insights into contemporary European issues and significantly contributed to the objectives of the project.
